There was a major technical fault in Pakistan’s power generation which caused an immense power outage that took the country into darkness for many hours.
Soon after the nationwide blackout, internet connectivity in the country distorted. Users had a hard time to get online as connectivity was at “62 per cent of ordinary levels”, according to Netblocks, an NGO which monitors internet outages.
Pakistan’s Energy Minister Omar Ayub asked people to be patient. He said the cause of the power outage was being examined and work was being done to fire up Pakistan’s main Tarbela power station, which would lead to a renewal of power in the rest of the country in phases.
The recent news blackout is said to be one of the vilest that the country has experienced, but it is most undoubtedly not the first. Due to Pakistan’s brittle power distribution system, outages occur frequently.
