Yellow and Blue Flags are for Country’s National Flag or Warnings?




We all are familiar with the yellow and blue flag used in Auto Racing to indicate that faster cars are approaching. In auto racing, a blue flag with a yellow strip is also referred to as the Courtesy Flag. But the national flag of the country is defined with other meanings. Typically a flag is a piece of fabric mostly in rectangular or quadrilateral form also in defined shapes and colors. However, a flag is not only used to depict a country or signaling device, it can also be used for decoration purposes. Moreover, the study of flags is termed “vexillology”. Talking about the national flag of a country, it is used to represent and symbolize that specific nation. Similarly, yellow and blue flags are predominately used to represent nations. Most of these flags comprise of two colors, but some of them also include some minor portion of the third color with blue and yellow color in the flag. This third color can be in the form of a star or a similar emblem.

Here, let’s discuss some rare flags with yellow and blue colors only and what do they symbolize about their nation.

Sweden – Blue flag with a Yellow Cross:

Officially many of you know Sweden as the Kingdom of Sweden. It is situated in a Scandinavian country in Northern Europe. Do you Know? This is the only Nordic sovereign state with yellow color in its flag. Geographically, the country shares its border with Norway to the west, Finland to the east, and is connected to Denmark in the southwest by a bridge-tunnel across the Oresund. Sweden is the third-largest country in the world with an area of 450,295 square kilometers and approximately populated with 10 million residents. Ukraine- The most popular Flag with Blue and Yellow color:

More than Sweden, Ukraine is famous for its yellow and blue flag. The Ukraine national flag only features two horizontal stripes of light blue on the top of the yellow strip. These two colors in the Ukrainian flag are derived from the heraldry of the city of Lviv. The color light blue in the flag represents sky and yellow represents wheat. Furthermore, Ukraine shares its borders with Russia to the east and northeast, Belarus to the northwest, Poland and Slovakia to the west, Hungary, Romania, and Moldova to the southwest, whereas in south and southeast it’s the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.


Cheshire – Three Golden Sheaves wheat and Golden Blade on Blue Background:

Cheshire is situated in the northwest of England. It is widely popular for its rural villages of half-timber and local red sandstone buildings. Cheshire’s national flag is beautifully designed and is admired all over the world. Cheshire yellow and blue flag was registered with Flag Institute on April 10, 2013. This flag is not especially yellow and blue flag as the tone of yellow colors goes more to a golden shade. Basically, the flag gains its beauty from three golden sheaves of wheat and a golden blade on a blue background.


European Union –Blue Flag with Yellow Stars:

European Union’s flag is a combination of the blue and yellow flag which symbolizes both the European Union and depicts the identity of Europe as well. The yellow and blue flag features a circle of 12 gold stars on a blue background. All these stars in the flag symbolize ideals of unity, solidarity, and harmony among the peoples of Europe. However, we cannot relate the number of stars in the flag with the number of countries but it does directly represent unity.


Alaska – Blue and Yellow Flag with 8 Stars:

Several other states in the US also have yellow and blue flags. The Alaska Flag consists of eight yellow or gold color stars arranged to form the Big Dipper with Polaris on the dark blue background. The Big Dipper actually symbolizes a bear which is an animal indigenous to Alaska. Besides, stars in the flag can be used as a guide by the novice to locate Polaris. Also, it determines the true north that will vary slightly from the magnetic north. More about Alaska, it is one of the US states located in the northwest extremity of the Americas. Alaska shares its maritime border with Russia to the west across the Bering Strait.


Kazakhstan – Blue, and Yellow Flag with Sun

Officially known as the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan is located in northern Central Asia. The Kazakhstan flag attains its beauty from the gold sun with 32 rays above a soaring golden steppe eagle in the center of the light blue background. Whereas, the host site of the flag depicts a pattern that is known as “Koshkar-Muiz”. Basically, the blue color in the flag depicts the religious significance to the Turkic people along with holding some cultural and ethical unity values.


Sussex – Blue and Yellow flag with birds:

The Sussex flag depicts the flag of the English province of Sussex. It was registered with the Flag Institute on Friday 20 May 2011 that portrays the traditional county flag which comes as a campaign started in August 2010 by the Sussex resident Brady Ells, with assistance from his father, David. The flag was endorsed by the Chief Vexillologist, Graham Bartram, and authoritatively flown on Saturday 28 May 2011 at Lewes Castle.


Palau – Simplest Yellow and Blue Flag:

Palau flag was affirmed on 1 January 1981 when the group of the island divided from the United Nations Trust Territory. It has one of the simplest blue and yellow flags where blue represents the “ocean” and the nation’s place within it. The yellow/gold disc or circle on the flag depicts the moon rather than the sun. The current flag was preceded in 1981 when Palau became a republic.


Indiana – Blue and Yellow Flag with Stars & Torch:

The Indiana flag was sketched by Paul Hadley and officially approved by the state of Indiana on May 11, 1917. It is one of the country flags that is adorned with a blue background and yellow/golden design on it. Moreover, its first flag of the country and so have remained unchanged. Indiana is of the United State of America located in the midwestern and Great Lakes regions of North America.
